About ‘CAMINO A FIESA 2020’
CAMINO a FIESA 2020
The Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata (UNMdP), together with the Secretary of University Policy of the Argentine Republic (SPU), the National University Council of Argentina (CIN) and the Asociación de Universidades Grupo Montevideo (AUGM) are collaborating to organize a week of discussions (9-12 September, 2019) entitled “CAMINO A FIESA 2020”. Involving the university community in Argentina, Latin America as well as strategic European partners, CAMINO a FIESA 2020 is dedicated to debating and planning the thematic agenda of the FIESA international higher education fair that will take place in Mar del Plata in 2020.
The CAMINOS project, an Erasmus+ Capacity Building Project involving universities and associations in five Latin American countries and in Europe, has decided to organize its final dissemination event in the framework of the “CAMINO A FIESA 2020” and to extend an invitation to other projects of a similar nature in Latin America. It is considered a unique opportunity to gather E+ projects with similar goals in the field of international cooperation and, together, contribute to the agenda of the FIESA 2020.
The CAMINOS project promotes the notion that the only way to generate sustainable results and guarantee adequate impact of E+ projects, both at the institutional and the policy level, is to generate synergies, share experiences and results and join forces where possible. Hence, the CAMINOS project is supporting the organizers of the CAMINOS a FIESA 2020 by integrating its final event into the programme, and inviting all Erasmus+ coordinators that wish to participate in the discussions.
The CAMINO a FIESA 2020 will, thus, offer the unique chance to all actors in Argentina, Latin America and Europe that have been collaborating in the framework of different international projects to share experiences and also contribute to the preparation of the FIESA 2020 conference.
The objectives of the CAMINO a FIESA 2020, in which the CAMINOS project embeds it’s final event, are
-
To promote the results of/plans for all Erasmus+ projects that are currently dealing with issues related to internationalization, such as recognition of studies, management of international offices and student services, internationalization of the curricula, internationalization of research, recognition, internationalization of research etc.
-
To discuss synergies between such projects, other international initiatives and how their results can be put to common use in the region and in building bridges between Europe and Latin America
-
To discuss the sustainability of the E+ projects results and possible contributions to the future of the E+ programme
-
To discuss the development of the Latin American Higher Education Space (ENLACES)/cooperation in the EU-Latin America policy framework.
-
To promote the outcomes of the CAMINOS project and its implications for both the university management of mobility and the cooperation between Latin American universities and associations when it comes to internationalizing the HE sector
-
To discuss contributions of E+ projects to the FIESA conference 2020.
-
To discuss how FIESA can promote and utilize E+ projects.
-
To contribute to the programme design of the FIESA conference.

About FIESA
‘FIESA’ is the ‘Feria Internacional de Educación Superior Argentina’. It celebrated its first edition in Mendoza in 2018 with the objective to position the Argentinian higher education sector within Latin America and globally and to help Argentinian universities to develop and deliver upon their internationalization ambitions, for the enhancement of teaching and learning, research and impact on society.
FIESA 2018 had more than 600 participants from over 20 countries, representing universities, civil society, international organizations and policy makers. It offered 20 workshops on topical thematic issues and offered an exhibition space to over 100 exhibitors.
FIESA 2020 is being hosted in Mar del Plata in March 2020 with the objective to engage the international higher education community around the theme of ‘Strategic Values for Higher Education Internationalization’. FIESA 2020 expects to receive more than 1000 participants and 300 exhibitors from institutions, agencies and countries from all over the world and to have around 50 thematic workshops.

CAMINO A FIESA 2020 Event Approach
Camino a Fiesa 2020 will open its activities with a high level discussion panel on the 9th of September aiming at setting the stage for the week and outlining the main objectives of the discussions that will follow on the 10th, 11th and 12th. In the evening, participants will have the chance to network and start informal conversations during a relaxed cocktail offered by the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata.
On the 10th of September, the event begins with panels that will frame Erasmus projects in the context of Argentinian and Latin American policy goals in the higher education and research sectors. Then, two rounds of plenary sessions will be held where specific Erasmus+ projects will have a space to present the results and impact to date, under the larger theme of ‘the contribution of Erasmus+ to internationalization in Latin America’.
Participants who register will have the opportunity to express their interest to present in these panels. There can be only one presentation per project, which will have to be limited to 5-7 slides and 8 minutes, to allow ample space for all projects to be included.
Then, participants will have the opportunity to participate in thematic break-out groups, where projects will be grouped and discussed according to themes. Each group will be tasked with producing five key conclusions and recommendations for further exploration in the FIESA conference (how that theme should be taken forward, taking into account existing initiatives and E+ projects).
A second round of thematic groups will be held on the morning of 11th, September.
Note that all groups will require mandatory prior inscription available at the registration form.
Each group will have a nominated rapporteur that will report back to the general conference rapporteur.
As an additional venue for promoting Erasmus+ project results, participants are invited to show a poster on their project in a poster session during lunch on the 11th.
The 12th is reserved for specific training workshops that participants may also sign up for in advance at the registration form. They will provide a hands-on approach to project development and to managing international relations offices.
Participants should keep in mind the following during their registration:
-
Interest and willingness to present an E+ project in plenary on the 10th
-
Pre-registration in thematic break-out groups on the 10th and 11th
-
Possibility to participate in a poster session on the 10th
-
Possibility for hand-on training via training workshops on the 12th.
Sign up for in advance via the registration form!
